Underwater Zoo @ Dubai Mall

khaleef off on a school trip to dubai aquarium and the underwater zoo at the biggest mall in the world – the dubai mall. this is the second time he went on a school trip, and on this one, my sister-in-law tagged along!

parents or guardian can join the trip along with the kiddos, but there’s limited space. once i got the memo informing me of the trip, i immediately booked a place with khaleef’s class teacher for my sister-in-law teh too.

it’s great that she joined them, because she was able to take a LOT of pictures!

  • mr. khairul dropped them off at school very early in the morning
  • went up the bus that’s taking them to dubai mall (where the aquarium is)
  • line up according to their respective classes before going into the dubai aquarium
  • a staff guided the little troupes, explaining things and conduct interesting demonstrations and fun activities here and there

before the tour. the guide laying out the do’s and don’ts. paying attention, ternganga khaleef! hihi. the guide is supposed to be this marine expert, and will help raise awareness of marine life with the kids, as well as help the kids understand the behaviours of the sea-creatures.

one of my sister-in-law’s favorite animal in this underwater zoo. the penguins; making their first appearance in the middle east! they’re a LONG way from home, people!

mr. khairul’s favorite animal. in fact, when asked what animal he would want to be, he said ‘shark’. explains things, huh? hihi. incidentally, my choice would be to be penguins. *wink*

what are the kiddos doing?

my sister-in-law explained that at this point, the boys and girls were asked to lie down on the carpeted floor, looking up at the ceiling. the ceiling was an arch-shaped aquarium so fishes and other sea-creatures were just swimming ‘on top’ of them.

they were asked to close their eyes, so that when they open their eyes, a large baby shark or a sting ray would be gliding ‘on top’.

it was so cute to see this picture of them lying down, and closing their eyes so enthusiastically!

one of the interesting demos was when the guide fed the ‘jumping fish’. this was the first thing that khaleef told me about, once he got back home. he was so excited that there was such a fish that could jump, and could even spit water!

according to my sister-in-law, the place is really worth the visit – great exhibits, interesting animals, lovely decor – with even a rope-bridge in the middle of a ‘jungle’.

there’s this little ‘dome’ where the kids can crawl under and pop up under the glass dome to get ‘closer’ to the fishes! cute!

thanks to my sister-in-law teh for all the pictures! also many thanks for the very descriptive and animated recount of what happened during the school trip so i may blog about it! she really enjoyed herself, especially being surrounded by little inquisitive smart kids. thanks again!

fancy a trip to the aquatic world of sea-creatures and such? visit dubai aquarium today!

well, the good news is, if you don’t mind just looking at the fishes from outside of the biggest aquarium in the world, you don’t even have to buy tickets and go in. just stand there and admire the beauty and elegance of the gliding sting ray, or the swimming sharks!

if you want to see what khaleef saw, a ticket for adult is 50aed. enjoy!
