our first makan-makan outing with abah since he’s here!
‘chalet’ is not a resort or inn at a beach in dubai – it’s actually a very popular restaurant in jumeirah, with its specialty, charcoal grilled chicken. we’ve come a few times just for this juicy, delicious dish. click here for my review of chalet, the first time we tried this place.
like i wrote in my review :
the place look like a small wooden hut at one corner of the road, with tables and chairs set up front. it's dimly lit, with some help from the roadside lights. there's a reasonably ample parking space right beside so we parked there.
this time around, we decided not to order our regular charcoal grilled chicken. we just had kfc for lunch, so chicken was far from our mind. let’s try seafood instead!
we ordered the seafood mix platter, which has grilled crab, squid, prawn and 4 types of fish. quite a ‘catch’, huh? mr. khairul also ordered the ‘new year special’ – lobster at 40% discount! haha. lobster pun main diskaun-diskaun ka? so we took that one as well!

here, every dish comes with a complimentary basket of arab bread as appetizer – something like capati or pita bread. together with this is the yummy hummus dip.
hummus is the one that looks like peanut butter, (which is a dip made from mashed chickpeas blended with olive oil, lemon juice, and garlic among others), the middle is the cut up tomatoes with some herbs, and the white one that looks like mayonnaise is actually garlic spread.
the trick is to spread a spoonful of hummus on your arabic bread, place a pinch of the tomato and onion slices, with garlic sauce - fold the arabic bread like you'd fold a carpet, and it's ready to be eaten! sedap!
we also go this plate of fresh salad; lettuce, olive with lemon slice – refreshing!

abah & umi
there are seats outside as well, and you’d be sorry if you don’t take advantage of the awesome cool weather we’re having these days in dubai. so we opted to sit outside, amidst jumeirah traffic.
you can see from the second picture of abah & umi; the jumeirah beach road stretching as far as the eye can see.
if you're thinking calm ambiance - nope! occasionally you'd be fed with the blazing sound of a speeding ducati or a maserati passing by! don't get me wrong - it's not noisy all the time - however, you have been warned that there will be occasional zing and zang once in a while!

the main course. the magnificent lobster!
can you see the crab’s feet? or claw? or leg?
one of the fishes.
abah wanted plain briyani rice, to eat with the seafood. soft beads of rice, delicious and filling!
i didn’t want to write reviews for each and every seafood on our plate, because there’s only one word to describe them all – deliciously salty and juicy. ok, i lied. there are more than one word to describe them, haha but they’re all pointing to TASTY!
the lobster, the crab flesh, the fish and the fleshy prawn and squid – they’re all grilled tastefully with the right amount of salt, and marinade.
abah said they’re even less oily than some grill seafood you get in malaysia.
two of my favorite guys enjoying their seafood. 2-2 seafood-freaks haha. korek-korek sampai ke tulang!
if only we have hot steam white rice, with air asam cecah or cili kicap! perfect!

thanks abah for the treat!
so, where to, tomorrow? *wink wink*
