this is my eldest sis yong. she’s petite, she’s feminine, and has a shrill voice. occasionally annoying like only a sister can be, but very much loved by all of us. hihi. she’s also an award-winnning teacher in ipoh, she’s active in politics and the youth association, and recently she’s won ‘anugerah perdana belia negara (wanita) peringkat negeri perak’.

1. bila kali terakhir anda pergi bercuti dan kenapa/sebab anda nak pergi bercuti?
kami bercuti ke musandam, oman nak tengok ikan lumba-lumba! kami pilih musandam sebab destinasi ni dekat, 2-3 jam je dari dubai. lagipun masa tu keluarga mr. khairul bercuti-cuti dubai, jadi ambil kesempatan bawak diorang jalan-jalan ke negara jiran.

2. berapakah umur anda? (jangan malu-malu nak announce) dan adakah anda rasa puas dengan pencapaian anda di usia anda sekarang ni?
saya baru saja mencapai umur 31 tahun, alhamdulillah. saya amat seronok dan bersyukur dengan apa yang saya ada sekarang, walaupun ade beberapa impian saya yang belum tercapai!

3. saya tahu anda seorang gemar bergambar di depan kamera! jadi pergi ambil kamera anda dan snap gambar wallet/beg duit anda! jangan la malu nak cakap berapa harganya sebab kuantiti nilai dalamnya lebih berharga!
saya memang suka bergambar, dan suka amik gamba. tapi ketika ini saya amat malas untuk amik wayar, upload ke notebook, edit dan buh kat blogger. jadi cukup saya cerita je?

memang saya blogger yang fanatik. saya blog pada pagi (lepas bapak budak pegi keja, budak-budak dah mandi, breakfast dan kazim tido) dan lepas makan tengahari (budak-budak dah makan, dan kahfi pulak tido). malam-malam, notebook di conquer oleh bapak budak.

• stop time - you can imagine why! if i can stop time, i could catch some zzzs while i freeze the boys, or when they're going berserk across the hall and into the kitchen - it could be a super-useful power to have!
• ability to fly - so that i can just fly my boys to and from school! hihi.

however, these (listed above) are basically my must-read blogs - my straight-away-click-once-i-get-online kinda blogs. these girls can write only one sentence, and i'd still click just to see what that one sentence is about.

today is hari pekerja. in all my working life i've been a lecturer, a magazine editor and a mentor in a kids' development center. now i'm in the most challenging profession of all - motherhood.

what makes a teacher, a tokoh guru?

• she's a graduate with honors?
• an extremely strict disciplinarian?
• handsome or gorgeous, or possess an admirable sense of fashion?
• spends hours after school for non-teaching activities and paperwork?
• able to relate to students in a friendly yet firm manner?
• warm personality and approachable?
• has a proven track record of excellence reflected in his/her students' exam results?
• been teaching for more than 10-20 years?

remember your favorite teacher? why is he/she a tokoh guru in YOUR heart?

cikgu syimee, in her final trimester, receiving the tokoh guru 2010 award from JPN director, perak

recently, during the 'hari anugerah cemerlang 2010' or 'excellence award day' for the raja perempuan school, ipoh, the school awarded the 'anugerah permata kencana' to 5 teachers for their exceptional service and dedication.

one of the 5 educationists is a young teacher in her first posting - my eldest sister, cikgu syimee!

being an educationist myself, i am so proud of her, as i know what is expected of a teacher, and what she is capable of. although she's a teacher in a school and i was lecturing before joining the early childhood education, but imparting knowledge is never that far off - be it to young adults, or little kiddos.

yong went on stage to receive the award while 7 months pregnant! someone quipped in her facebook, 'bulan ni syimee dapat anugerah permata kencana, bulan depan dapat anugerah cahaya mata pulak!'

we were once students - and i'm sure we've a set of criteria to determine our favorite teacher.

someone who smiles. someone who is just and fair. someone who praises when it's deserving, and punishes when it's due. someone who shares stories that entertain as well as inspire. someone that sets good example. someone who believes that his/her students can improve. someone who believes that his/her students CAN do something extraordinary.

not someone who kutuk the headmaster/headmistress in front of the students. not someone who groups together with other teachers to gossip. not someone who smirks at a student's failure, and doubts when a student improves.

and certainly NOT someone who 'colors' his/her blogs or facebook status with nothing but constant complains about his/her 'burdening' teaching works. bad form!

i've nothing but praises for cikgu syimee - not just because she's my sister, but i KNOW her - i know how hard she works, how dedicated she is in any tasks put before her and how much passion she has in educating her students.

this award is testimony of her efforts. like i wrote in her wall; 'though she is green in experience, but golden in her dedication and commitment in educating young minds'.

she is the kind of teacher i would wish for my boys! CONGRATS again, yong - tokoh guru 2010!

1. i'm married to penang boy mr. khairul, and i have 2 sons - 4 year old khaleef and 1 year old kahfi, plus another kay coming!
2. my major field of study was language and literature
3. i love reading, writing, singing and collecting (refer to #6), also disney cartoons and chinese-style cooking
   
4. i am obsessive about color coordination, or some kind of coordination (big to small, or shapes, or types, or shades of color). books on the shelf, clothes hang to dry, or clothes hang in closet
5. i do not like anything coffee, and taugeh, and blind flying cockroaches
6. i am a collector. tissue napkins, paper serviettes, drink stirrer, lanyard, theater booklets, theme park maps, hotel keycards, bookmarks and chopsticks. i'm a sucker for these things!
7. i was born and raised in ipoh with my other 4 sisters, got married and lived in KL, and now staying in dubai

cousins at play : kahfi & husna, taken when we went back to msia last year

taking an itty bitty space to wish my cute chubby wubby niece nuna or nur aisyah husna, a HAPPY BIRTHDAY! born 2 years ago, technically she and kahfi are the same age, spaced by 9 months!

husna is

• yong's only girl (so far) and 3rd child
• expecting a baby brother or baby sister
  
• abah's second grand-daughter, and 4th cucu
• so cute!!!
