‘Selamat Pagi 1 Malaysia’ : My In-Laws Speak about Big School English Programmes

it’s always exciting to see someone you know appear on TV, what more if the people are closely related to you. so naturally, it was a big deal for my mr. khairul, knowing his big little brother and sister would be appearing on LIVE tv.

it was last may, and my bro-in-law khairul adzha or K and sis-in-law tina were invited to appear on ‘Selamat Pagi 1 Malaysia’ or ‘good morning malaysia’, a morning talk-show aired on RTM TV1 channel, over the education slot.

personally, I was more interested to know the goings-on behind the camera in a LIVE tv production, and whether they yell ‘action’! haha. was it nerve-wrecking for the siblings? or a surprisingly fun experience?

the friendly ‘Selamat Pagi 1 Malaysia’ team, Wan Aliazar and Tazneem Faisal with my bro-in-law K and sis-in-law tina

they were there to promote the Big School English Programme which is specially designed to facilitate learning of the english language among children from the age of 4 focusing on FUN LEARNING METHODOLOGY.

learning english should be fun, and in the words of my khaleef : ‘easy breezy lemon squeasy’!

the 20-minute talk on ‘Selamat Pagi 1 Malaysia’ also discussed an expansion plan to cater for individuals interested in english education; be it opening their own education centers (using the modules prepared by the Big School Education Group), or to enhance their own communication skills in english.

the modules were designed based on four criteria : effective communication skills, language proficiency, professional interpersonal skills, and character enhancement.

RTM has been helpful in opening doors to many bumiputera companies to reach target market through comm media. knowing RTM’s stance, they took the opportunity to explain how the Big School Education can benefit the nation, especially the bumiputeras through their corporate social responsibility project.

this community service project is a partnership with MCOBA (malay college old boys assoc), aimed at providing english education to underprivileged urban children in a fun environment outside of school, as well as teacher-training to unemployed graduates. it’s called ‘MCOBA English Enrichment Community Centre (MEECC)’.

visit their facebook page for more information on MEECC.

now back to the LIVE show! what tina learned from her LIVE interview on RTM Selamat Pagi 1 Malaysia :

  • know your product well will definitely ensure a smooth Q&A
  • before the show starts, a personnel would brief them about the kind of questions to expect from the TV hosts
  • nevertheless, they should be ready during the LIVE recording, for unexpected questions that might somehow relate to their product
  • the role of the TV host is extremely important to anchor a tv talk-show, especially one recorded LIVE – humility and professionalism are helpful traits to be able to make the guests feel welcome, at ease and less nervous
  • RTM tv hosts were friendly and made them feel relaxed

1012356_491360467601633_648400913_n

from what I watched, there were few moments with playful banters between the hosts and K and tina that help lightened the mood. this made the show less rigid (well, we know how RTM can be in the past, right? haha), and viewers can relate more to what they’re saying.

knowing mr. khairul as a good public speaker, I was not surprised to watch his brother and sister being a natural like him, when speaking on TV. a lot of room for improvements to be more eloquent but considering they don’t do this often – not bad, not bad at all!

Module Writer and Senior Executive of HR, Training & Module Development unit

interestingly enough, this is not tina’s first TV appearance. she has appeared on TV once before over Astro Awani channel, also in promoting the Big School English Programmes. anyhow, to her the RTM tv talk was still very special as she was alongside big bro K!

“..jadi lagi comfortable, coz we know we both would have each other’s backs!” they can finish each other’s sentences!

* * *

this was tina’s first tv appearance – LIVE at Astro Awani on February 26, in Bisnes Awani segment with host cerenna manickam. she appeared alongside one of the trainers of Big School English Programme.

tina said the experience being on the talk over at Astro Awani was different than in RTM. they were only given 8 minutes, so whatever message they want to put out there must be concise and comprehensive.

since they were featured in the ‘business awani’ segment, the talk focused more on entrepreneurship opportunity that Big School Education can offer. business talk, basically!

done partly in english, unlike in RTM’s ‘Selamat Pagi 1 Malaysia’ which is full BM. to me give my sis-in-law tina english or bahasa melayu, she was able to deliver effectively and to the point. she doesn’t appear to be nervous, as if she’s been doing this many times. she’s a natural!

to reps from TV or radio stations who might be reading this, the Big School Education team is always eager to honor invites to appear on TV or radio to spread their message especially about their community service project that will certainly benefit the nation. bring it on!

the Big School English Programme might benefit you! to find out more, visit BIG education facebook page. click here.

Masterchef Selebriti Malaysia Musim 2 : Lepas 11 Episod

klung klang klung klang kuali dengan senduk dah 11 episod dah aku tengok masterchef selebriti ni. setakat yang aku tau, dah 4 orang terkeluar. nasib baik dapat tengok jugak walaupun aku nun jauh di dubai. yay!

dalam hiruk pikuk PRU13, dapat jugak merehatkan otak menggelikan hati tengok selebriti-selebriti malaysia masak-masak! untuk makluman, peserta-peserta terdiri daripada pelbagai kaum – semua masak memasak dengan penuh harmoni ok! say NO to RACISM!

* * *

berikut ialah pandangan peribadi aku selaku orang yang hanya lah menonton di hadapan kaca tv di rumah aku nun di dubai ni. aku tak kenal personaliti masterchef selebriti malaysia musim 2 ni secara peribadi jadi ape yg aku komen cuma pandangan seorang peminat masterchef selebriti! harap jangan ade yg tergusir di hati ok!

Yasin

aku agak surprise tgk perwatakan yang terlampau rileks dari yasin dalam masterchef selebriti musim 2 ni. tak beria-ia sangat nak menonjolkan identiti pelawak dia. sampai aku rasa rileks sangat la pulak brader ni! aku mengharapkan lebih banyak lagi komen-komen klaka dari dia tapi kebanyakannya berbentuk ayat penyata yang monotone. haha. apa pun, yasin dah terkeluar. takde la ape impak sangat watak dia, kecuali tajuk masakan dia yang paling klaka, ‘pasta tak pasti’. haha.

Keroz

Zain

zain oh zain. to be fair, aku suka je dia masa awal-awal masterchef selebriti tu. orangnya memang comel, dan ok je respon-respon dia bila chef bertanya masa dia memasak. dia dgn che ta pun aku suka – panggil-panggil ‘sayang’ masa che ta terkena pisau – aku rasa sweet je, tak over dan menggedik pun mcm yg ramai kata.

Sathia

aku suka sathia. tak kecoh tapi tetap lawak, walaupun tak berniat nak melawak. dah cara cakap dia pun buat tergelak. sentiasa sedia membantu dan belajar benda baru dengan chef walaupun dia dah berumur. korang tau ke dia ni dah 50 tahun seh!

comel je masa tersingkir, dia banyak kali sebut pasal isteri dia cakap masa awal-awal lagi, “abang good luck masuk masterchef selebriti. minggu pertama mesti dah klua!” bangga betul dia bila dapat bertahan lebih dari satu episod! so sweet la ane!

Rozita / Che Ta

yang aku paling kagum ialah gaya ketrampilan dia yg mmg anggun sentiasa. betul dia memang kotakan kata dia nak masak pakai bulu mata palsu mekap tebal semua – maintain, bak kata michael ang! ade satu episod tu siap pakai bunga gedabak kat kepala. tapi orangnya lawa kan, pakai apa pun lawa.

Sabbhi

masih baru dalam bidang hiburan, pangkat adik-adik pulak tu, jadi kurang bising dia. namun, komen-komen dia dalam masterchef pun menampakkan kesungguhan dia dalam memasak. kita tengok sejauh mana dia bole pergi dalam masterchef selebriti musim 2 ni!

Lydiawati

suka dia. mengingatkan aku pada mak sedara mr khairul yg dipanggil mak tam. orangnya bukan lah muda remaja lagi tapi tetap jelita. suka tengok muka lydiawati ni – natural beauty! aku dah kata dah, masak macam mak-mak dan memang membuahkan hasil yang menyelerakan. ade potensi nak pegi jauh dalam pertandingan masterchef selebriti musim 2 ni!

Michael Ang

dia ni pengarah drama kan? aku memang tak sangka lansung akan jadi salah satu karakter yang menghiburkan. BM pun superb! cakap dan lenggok bahasa dia dah macam melayu dah! cara cakap yang seperti jaafar onn, michael ang sentiasa ada komen-komen sinis yang lucu tapi tak menyakitkan hati sangat. terhibur jugak la kadang-kadang. kalau dia tersingkir nanti, sure bosan masterchef selebriti! comel masa dia merajuk tak dapat sama kumpulan dengan shora dan che ta!

michael ang dipuji lepas baked potato dia masak sangat sempurna, lembut – terus dia kongsi rahsia kesempurnaan ubi tu. salut dengan garam ngan olive oil, masuk oven suhu 180 untuk 45 minit, dan sentiasa balik-balikkan setiap 15 minit. cucuk-cucuk sikit untuk test. confirm perfect, katanya. terima kasih michael ang!

Syura

tak minat dia sebagai penyanyi tapi suka dengan karakter dia yang positif. lemah lembut dan sungguh menampilkan ciri-ciri gadis melayu bertudung. syabas! biase-biase je la dia ni. tak kecoh sangat. tak laser sangat. jadi tak banyak bole aku komen!

Radhi

Enot

tak sangka enot ni manja jugak, eh? haha. manja betul dengan syanie ngan michael ang. aku suka sebab enot pandai masak. aku suka persahabatan mengada manja dia dengan syanie. hihi. aku harap dia kekal lama dalam masterchef selebriti musim ke-2 ni!

Afiq Muiz

sekali pandang macam angkasawan sheikh muszaphar, kan? hensem dan sasa, hormat orang lebih tua dan sedia membantu. tolong beri dia more airtime, astro! harap-harap afiq kekal lebih lama dalam masterchef selebriti musim 2 ni sebab aku memang suka tengok lelaki macho pakai apron pegang kuali! hihi

**SPOILER ALERT**

afiq baru tersingkir dalam cabaran spaghetti! aduh hilang pemanis mata nan seorang ni! hihi. sebak sungguh bila chef jo memuji afiq mengatakan anak muda ni kreatif, ade potensi besar bagaikan bintang dan sila jangan berhenti memasak. oh, you can cook for me anytime!

Norish Karman / NK

Aznil / Pak Nil

well, siapa yang tak suka aznil haji nawawi? aku memang minat sejak dari zaman ‘poppppp quiz’ sampai lah ke ‘macam-macam aznil’. seorang personaliti yg sentiasa kreatif, ceria dan bijak menghiburkan penonton. dalam masterchef selebriti ni pun dia kekal professional walau dalam apa jua situasi. sebagai seorang yg dah amat senior dalam bidang hiburan, dah menang macam-macam award, dia tetap merendah diri, bersemangat dan bersedia belajar dgn chef-chef juri mahupun rakan-rakan selebriti lain. tak tunjuk diva pun. sama macam azwan ali musim lepas. pedas laser di luar, tapi dalam masterchef, menunjukkan sikap professional. syabas!

oh lagi satu nak tambah, aku rasa dia lah jejaka berumur 51 tahun paling MUDA yang pernah aku tgk. tak dimakan usia je aznil ni!

Sharifah

dipanggil shora oleh rakan-rakan masterchef selebriti. aku tak berapa kenal dia. pelakun drama pun bukan watak utama kot kan. pada aku dia sangat cuba untuk buat lawak tapi tak selalunya lawak. cuba-cuba nak kecoh tapi tak selawak michael ang atau syanie. tapi kalau org tu bagus, mmg dia akan puji org tu when they deserve it. itu aku suka. itu je. tak berminat nak tau lebih lanjut psl dia. sekian, terima kasih.

Kenchana

Cat Farish

macam comot-comot sikit kan haha tambah pulak dengan rambut dia tu! macam abang burger ramly depan kedai 7-11 pun ade haha tapi aku dapat rasakan cat farish masak dengan penuh tekun dan jujur. orghang perghok pulak kannnn jadi aku sebagai anak kelahiran perak jugak amat terhibur bila dia guna loghat perak dalam pertuturan dia. kejor yob kejor!

Celina

celina bukan saja manis, bijak (graduan chemical engineering) bahkan jugak pandai masak. macam soo winci musim lepas. another favorite. pertuturan celina jujur dan berbudi bahasa, dgn BM yang sedap didengar, maklumla membesar di kelantan. mungkin org kata bosan sebab takde kontroversi atau lawak jenaka, tapi ini lah peserta sebenar yang betul-betul nak masak with no hanky panky! tersangat la sweetnye bila dia menitis airmata sebab tak dapat nak pilih ahli kumpulan yg mana untuk ke pusingan penyingkiran! harap-harap celina ke final masterchef selebriti musim 2 nanti!

Syanie

ok setakat ni aku takde peserta paling favorite, sebab aku juga suka celina, radhi dan aznil, tapi syanie ni nak dekat-dekat la jadi favorite jugak hihi. orangnya berlawak yang tak over, ceria, sentiasa bersemangat, positif dan sentiasa menghidangkan makanan yang sedap, menyelerakan dan berhiasan kreatif. aku suka! harap-harap syanie masuk final dengan celina ataupun si manja enot!

* * *

ok lepas cabaran sajian berkumpulan kat sepang gold coast, aku belum lagi tengok episod penyingkiran. jangan kasi spoiler ok!

semua gambar aku ambik dari website astro. terima kasih!

Masterchef Selebriti Malaysia Musim Ke-2 : Pendapat Aku

yay! aku minat sgt masterchef selebriti malaysia tahun lepas. so sangat ternanti-nanti musim ke-2! adoi. kena tengok dari dubai lagi. tahun lepas berjaya tgk masterchef selebriti finale kat malaysia. tahun ni sempat tak?

mula tayang 22 april. tak sabar!

masterchef selebriti

maaf ade yang aku tak kenal sebab aku tak ikut drama melayu (aku kat dubai, malas nak tengok kat youtube dan website) dan aku tak berapa kenal peserta-peserta rancangan realiti tv yg berlambak kat msia. tapi berikut aku beri anticipation aku terhadap karektor2 warna-warni yang bakal memeriahkan masterchef selebriti malaysia musim ke-2 :

MasterChef Selebriti

* * *

lydiawati – pelakun jelita 80-an yang sekarang dah ayu bertudung. mesti macam mak-mak kat dapur kan.

sabhi saddi – tak kenal jugak. siape dia ni? google kat youtube, ha ambik kau – gile sedap suara dia. terus jadi hensem. haha. aku dengar lagu ‘nadiku’. maaf terlambat tapi sukanya lagu ni! kenape aku tak pernah perasan dia ni!

norish karman – bosan. tak minat. tak minat lakunan, tak minat in person. perasaan macam haliza misbun kot. haha.

radhi – wah! kejutan betul radhi OAG nak memasak. pernah jumpa dan amik gamba dgn radhi masa dia buat gig untuk youthquake di ipoh. aku expect dia akan gila-gila sikit dalam kelam-kelibut. pasti menarik! eh, kot-kot pandai masak rendang tok!

rozita che wan – tak minat. bosan. tapi lepas zain saidin meluahkan perasaan cinta pada dia, aku tertarik utk tgk dia beraksi di luar layar drama tv. best sangat ke sampai zain yang comel muda rupawan tu bole tergila bayang? cinta itu buta! lagi satu nak tgk rozita che wan masak pakai bulu mata palsu (ini mmg quote dari dia ok!)

sathiya – lawak! aku suka! tapi harap-harap dia tak mengoverkan nk melawak. harap-harap bersahaja mcm farouk.

zain saidin – comel. sasa. tapi sebab aku ni minat muka melayu, jadi aku lebih tertarik nak tgk sabhi saddi atau keroz nazri mahupun afiq muiz. aku nantikan bibit-bibit manis (erk!) antara dia dan rozita che wan.

sharifah shahora – macam kenal tapi, macam tak cam. pelakun drama ye? mungkin bosan bagi aku sebab tak kenal sangat, tapi mungkin jugak sweet dan menarik mcm pendapat aku psl siti sarah musim lepas. aku tak minat sgt siti sarah tapi personaliti dia sweet je.

* * *

ini semua pendapat peribadi aku je ok, dari diri aku yang tak berapa kenal sgt sesetengah peserta ni. jangan lah emo sangat kalo korang peminat norish karman atau yg lain yg aku tak berapa kenal. lepas tgk masterchef selebriti ni kenal lah!

hmm. tapi kan, pendapat aku lah kalau dah ade syanie patut xpayah ade enot kan. ramai sgt pelakun komedi dlm musim ni. sathiya ngan kenchana devi lagi. yassin pun ade. hopefully they don’t try too hard to be funny. aku rasa penerbit masterchef selebriti ingat rancangan ni nak bank on funny dan humor. tapi tak semestinya pelawak je bole contribute humor. mcm thanuja dan jehan musim lepas bukan pelawak pun tapi komen-komen diorang ade je lawaknya.

lagi satu, musim lepas ade angkasawan dan ratu cantik (bukan dari bidang hiburan) jadi musim baru ni patutnya jemput sekali ahli sukan atau pembaca berita untuk jadi peserta. kan?

ok tak sabar nak tgk! (tolong laaa upload kat youtube!)

Masterchef Selebriti Malaysia : I’m Hooked!

aku suka tengok masterchef selebriti malaysia. suka sangat!

hari-hari check youtube tengok dah ade orang upload latest episod tak! masa blog post ni dikarang, aku tengok setakat episod 18, episod penyingkiran – opps, takmo kasi spoiler ok. so korang pun shh je ok.
staying in dubai, i don’t get to follow regular malaysian channels, but i really would love to watch the occasional malay drama – tapi banyak sangat, camne nak tau mana yang best, mana yang bosan kan. so suddenly i stumbled into masterchef selebriti malaysia – terus follow!

10705

why i like masterchef selebriti malaysia :
  1. dapat tengok selebriti in a different setting that we used to see them
  2. menunjukkan selebriti in a new light – just like us normal people yang gelabah nak carik bahan, terkejut dapat tau pasal cabaran-cabaran
  3. paling seronok nak tengok azwan ali, tomok, fazley ngan jehan miskin masak
  4. masterchef selebriti malaysia ade drama, ade lawak, ade suspen, ade emosi – fun to watch!
  5. suka nak tau ape cabaran-cabaran yang diorang akan face – cross sungai nak amik brg kat pantry, or masak pelbagai jenis mushroom, ngan masak masakan kampung and also cara menentukan ahli kumpulan yang kadang-kadang suspen!
  6. at the same time bole la pick up some cooking tips from the chef judges, as well as the contestants themselves! cth macam chef ckp serbuk kopi ditaruh sikit dalam adunan coklat supaya rasa coklat tu naik. ooOoo baru aku tau!

* * *

takde keja kan, so ni aku punya personal take on each contestant. PERSONAL opinion ok. kalo korang tak setuju takpe. setuju la jugak. hoho.

Dr Faiz Selebriti MasterChef Malaysia

Msian Astronaut Mejar Dr. Faiz - the first celebrity to leave the masterchef kitchen

YAY : he's humble, enthusiastic in facing the cooking challenges, and for someone who has gone through more complicated situations and mind-bending challenges as our malaysian astronaut, i like that he still seemed nervous when he hears about a difficult cooking task. makes him seemed 'human' like the rest of us! hihi

BOO : he's boring! sorry ye mejar! we watch 'celebrities' because we want to be entertained, inspired and amused by what they have to say. he doesn't impress me. so-so je, so bye bye to the moon, doc!

Siti Sarah - Singer

YAY : ade time dia bising, tapi most of the time she's always calm and cool, yet can be feisty for her small built.

BOO : also boring, and this may be because i don't really have any opinion about siti sarah as a person, or even as a singer. but then again, i also have never heard of so wincci and thanuja, but i like them already!

Serina Redzuawan

YAY : i like her. she seemed so down to earth. and for someone who is the daughter of an internationally-acclaimed chef, she's very humble, accepts her fate whenever she's included in the elimination round and always positive. she's quite funny too. seronok tengok dia di dapur, sebab ade je time dia kelam kabut sama mcm kita-kita yang bapak bukan chef pon hihi

BOO : i don't find anything i dislike about her; losing her from the masterchef show was a sad blow since she's fun to watch in the kitchen. i was just very surprised that she doesn't have her father's masterful touch when it comes to cooking!

Salamiah Hassan

YAY : i like her in the beginning, bak kata karl shafek - she's like the nagging but loving mother in the kitchen.

BOO : soon enough, she started to show her diva-ness, probably because she's the oldest celebrity competing and konon macam banyak pengalaman. when she left, i say 'good riddance'!

Louisa Chong

YAY : i really like her. she proves to be as funny in her acting as well as in the masterchef kitchen. she doesn't hog the limelight eventhough she was the leader for a few challenges. pokpek macam makcik, tapi itu yang buat meriah!

BOO : can be annoying at times, especially when she teamed up with equally noisy celebrity azwan ali! kecoh! haha. however, i didn't really wanna see her go as she brings humor and cerianess to the masterchef kitchen.

Raja Azmi

YAY : she surprises me with her occcasional humility and rendah diri. you know with all the previous controversy that surrounds her personal life, she seemed well – normal!

BOO : aiyo, too sensitive! this is supposed to be a fun, healthy competition to win money for a good cause! leave your diva bags aside, and enjoy the ride lah. melenting-melenting will only make you look so emo for tv – i’m referring to that incident with juliza adlizan dek kerana potongan timun dan bungkusan nasi lemak!

Karl Shafek

YAY : ok i have NO IDEA who this dude is when i first saw him, (actually sekarang pun aku masih tak kenal dia ni host rancangan ape) but he’s so cute! pretty boy! if not for his occasional complaining, he’s a real eye-candy. pandai masak pulak tu!

BOO : suka play the blame-game. getting into elimination round is because of raja azmi giving him the wrong tips. or azwan ali’s food got worse critic than his. or this. or that. there’s always something. me no likey.

575235_439651136044916_117796408230392_1738877_1873103577_n

Thanuja – Miss Malaysia

YAY : a beauty queen who is gorgeous and terer masak! she’s giddy and giggly, just like any excited young girl embarking upon an interesting challenge in the kitchen! suka tengok dia jugak, especially when she takes pride making indian food, or food with indian touch. bangga dengan asal usul dan akar umbi sendiri!

BOO : so far ok je. comel je dia dikenenkan dengan angah. hihi.

Soo Wincci – Miss Malaysia

YAY : suka tengok dia! so sweet! seriously she’s SO much prettier without make-up, rambut ikat tocang macam budak sekolah – cute sangat. i really like her. so gorgeous, and so talented. and though everyone else in masterchef selebriti has recognized her as the dessert-pro, she’s still so humble. looking forward for more of her dishes.

BOO : nothing to dislike. she’s sweet, she’s talented, and she’s humble about her ability in the kitchen.

Jehan Miskin

YAY : all this while, for me tak pernah pun rasa jehan miskin ni hensem ke ape ke, but there’s something really sexy about a hunky good-looking guy who can cook. sexy chef in the house? bring it on! he's cute, he's fun to watch, and he can cook! also humble and knows his limits but still reach out to do more. his comments can be quite funny too – “jangan kasi pelawak kira duit” haha.

BOO : not yet. i would love for him to stay longer in masterchef selebriti just because he’s the handsomest of the bunch!

Angah Raja Lawak

YAY : i’m in dubai yang tak pernah ikut mana-mana raja lawak series so i don’t know him. i don’t know how funny this guy is but i like that angah ni tak over sangat nak menonjolkan lawak dia. he’s just like any normal guy who makes jokes here and there, tapi tak sampai annoying. ok la. low profile. i also admire his creativity when it comes to decorating his dishes. bagus lah!

BOO : he’s not my favorite contestant, but there’s nothing about him that i dislike. bagus dia ni sebab tak over walaupun dia terkenal as pelawak.

YAY : what else can i say, he’s a funny-man, so he’s enjoyable to watch. his so-called ‘permusuhan’ with azwan ali (which i think is TOTALLY made-up for the show hihi) is also fun to watch, because it’s like “yeah we hate each other, but to be professional, we can work together well!” which speaks volume of his personality.

BOO : ok. so far so good. lawak!

Juliza Adlizan

YAY : she sure can cook. i think she’s one of those people who can take a simple dish and make it really good with her touch. and she has that leadership quality that keeps her ‘workers’ on their toes and working well. she’s confident, but i like it that she’s not cocky about it.

BOO : boring. i just don’t have any opinion on her personality. she would probably stay for her talent.

Azwan Ali

YAY : believe it or not, i like watching him in this. call him weird with that bulu he always carry around or mulut laser or emo memanjang or whatever – he’s the life of the kitchen! that is what reality tv is all about! i will always look forward to hear what he has to say about someone or a challenge or a result of a task. most of the time he would be this pokpek makcik, but it’s still amusing to watch!
also, aku suka yang walaupun dia nampak difficult dan becok, tapi bila time keja dia memang buat bersungguh-sungguh and takde pun nak tunjuk diva dengan judge or kawan-kawan selebriti. bagus lah tu.

BOO : bak kata sorang selebriti tu (aku lupa sape) “azwan ni menang pun nangis, kena masuk pusingan penyingkiran pun nangis. kawan terklua pun nangis” haha. drama king! however, i think if he were eliminated, the kitchen will lost one little sparkle, and would be much less noisy, and a little less interesting…

Tomok

YAY : ok. aku pun tak sangka yang tomok ni my favorite masterchef selebriti contestant so far, sebab aku memang tak minat lansung la dia sebagai penyanyi. i just like him in the kitchen. he’s really cute lah. he's moving under the radar - not too kecoh, dan sentiasa nak cuba dan cuba walaupun dah 5-6 kali sipi-sipi nak terkeluar dari dapo masterchef! semangat!

BOO : not yet. still too cute to be cooking. hihi.

Dato’ Fazley

YAY : my choice on first msian celebrity masterchef? dato’ fazley, hopefully!
being an established motivational speaker, he always knows what to say, and i like that. he’s humble, banyak tolak ansur (orang lain reject bendera ireland, tapi dia sorang je yang volunteer nak try benda yang orang lain taknak. sama mcam dia nak bekerja dengan azwan ali yang org lain nak elakkan. bagus!)

paling best, aku suka sebab fazley ni selalu mention isteri dia dalam komen-komen dia. “isteri saya yang terer masak kek ni…” atau, “kalau isteri saya tau..” and yang paling sweet, “saya terbayang isteri saya tengah sorak-sorak..” itu aku rasa sangat sweet, sebab dia sentiasa teringatkan isteri dia. hihi.

BOO : setakat ni, aku nak dia dan tomok masuk final. or fazley and soo wincci. full stop.

5 Reasons I Cry Watching Junior Masterchef

if you’ve been taking a walk on the moon or hybernating for the past months, you’d probably didn’t know that ‘junior masterchef’ is a cooking game show involving kids aged between 8 – 13. looking at their age, you’d think they make cute cupcakes, plain porridge or just simple caesar salad. nope.

yeap. my jaw dropped, looking at the level of sophistication they brought to their cookings. not just that, i was close to tears watching these mini masterchef at work. ok lah, not close to tears – i was actually in tears already!

beating 5,000 hopefuls, these are the top 12 finalists for this first season. among the top 12 are twin sisters isabella and sofia from queensland. though i already know who will end up winning in the end, it’s never a bore watching these little kitchen geniuses at work.

they’re SO talented, and they’re SO adorable!

picture credit : here. my favorite would be pierre, cassidy, jack, isabella & twin sis sofia & alex :-)

1) age does not matter to achieve greatness

their culinary competence is beyond anything i’ve seen a kid can do. i mean, yah sure you’d be impressed when a kid can do algebra at the age of 7 – but this is more fun! age jokes kept popping up - “what are you? 27? 30?”, and “how old are you? 8?! you’re joking!” and “if this is how your chocolate mousse taste like when you’re 9, imagine how it will be when you’re 20!”

the presentation of their food is also remarkable. it looks like it came straight from a fancy restaurant fit for fine dining. you know – the kind where they make all the prawns stand up and sauce is poured on top, or a teeny weeny dessert with chocolate spiral around it and fresh raspberry on the side – unbelievable.

i mean, kids are generally creative – but this is something really classy altogether!

2) they display outstanding support for each other

they hugged each other after a challenge, they give high-5s, they pat each other on the back when someone made it to the next round – the supportive atmosphere was just astounding. you’d be ashamed at how much adult contestants bicker, complain and back-stab each other in other reality shows.

in junior masterchef, there are no put-down comments on other contestants like, “i know she’s good so if i can beat her it would be great,” or “he doesn’t deserve to be here, he’s got no talent,” – they’re just a bunch of kids having a time of their lives.

3) incredible parents’ support

i feel so overwhelmed with their cooking talent, that i cried. imagine their parents! there was one contestant, whose father looked like an aging biker – but always seemed on the verge of tears everytime the camera points at him. so very sweet!

the moms are always, “i’m panicking but he seemed so relax, and has everything under control. i’m so proud of him,” there was one mom who screamed so loud and jumping up and down at her seat that her kid was like, “aw mom! not on national TV!” and the one of the judges commented in jest, “your mom is embarassing, huh? haha. no matter how old you are, your mom is going to be proud like that!”

cammon, you’re a mom (or dad) – your kid is able to put his shoes in the shoe rack all by himself, and you’d be throwing pompoms up in the air, right? just the other day my eldest son khaleef kemas the entire living room, and WASHED HIS OWN PLATE. *hati berbunga-bunga*!

that’s definitely a proud moment for me!

4) they’re cooking stuff i can’t even pronounce, using cutleries i don’t even recognize!

croquembouche, boudin blanc sausage, la gout de la mer, cotolette, classic vietnamese dishes, french cuisine, mediterranean meals – these are only some of the dishes that the junior master chefs were able to produce from their little kitchen.

say what?

these are dishes that i can’t even afford to order from high-end restaurants and cafes, let alone try to make one! these kids are incredible!

they make their own capsicum sauce and lemon dip, they mould their own pastry dough and rolled out their own pasta from scratch. they look like they’ve got years of training before-hand to get to the point where they can make all these on their own – within very limited time!

i wonder if the kids could spell what they’re cooking...

5) the cool judges

the judges make it fun for them. their comments are a pleasure to hear, their expressions are exaggerated and they even help out at the kids’ station.

sure, they MOSTLY gave out positive comments – because hey, lighten up – they’re just kids! if you pull a gordon-ramsay, that kid won’t ever touch another pot! during judging, they make funny faces when they taste, widened their eyes in disbelief of how good the dish tasted, they even once walked away from the judging table and pretend it didn’t taste that good.

all in good natured fun and just a lot of encouragement for the young chefs.

enjoy one of the many, many clips of the awesome cheflings. this one is a group of the youngest groups of contestants – 8 to 10-year olds. amazing.

zoey is so adorable! i love her quippy little accent especially the way she pronounce ‘sauce’. hihi *pinch pinch*

okay, i’m already ecstatic that akademi fantasia is finally coming to its final season. enough already! and like mr. khairul mentioned, we should be proud that ‘imam muda’ was our own unique reality-show, and was even mentioned in the UAE newspaper. also, masterchef malaysia is coming soon.

now the question is – when can we have junior masterchef : malaysia?

Cooking With Kak Zaida @ Dubai TV

like so many of our beloved friends in dubai, she’s one of them who opens her home to us with warmth, care and delicious food! kak zaida was also the one who helped take care of khaleef and kahfi while mr. khairul was with me during the hours of labor; giving birth to kazim.

i can’t thank her enough for that! *hugs*!

and just the other day mr. khairul told me that kak zaida, along with another malaysian, kak nani were featured in a television show in dubai called ‘tv wrap’. it was a special feature on how expatriates in dubai celebrate ramadhan – specifically malaysians.

kak zaida was shown fixing a famous must-have malaysian dish during ramadhan – the bubur lambuk. after that, kak nani explained how to make a malaysian desert, kuih koci.

it’s funny, amusing, with a little sense of pride to see someone you know featured on a popular tv show, right? i was smiling as i watched the episode through a link given by another dubai friend fida. kak zaida, you’re a natural! enjoyed watching your brief ‘cooking show’! you go, girl!

click here to watch the whole episode. (it’s the entire episode and not just the clip on kak zaida, so be patient and wait for the bit about ramadhan for malaysians in dubai, that will come around the middle of the show. bangga weh! hihi)
