Song Dedication From a Husband

speaking as a wife – i enjoy your company, i appreciate the shoes and bags, i love the dining out, and i appreciate the money spent to clothes the kids, put roof over our heads, and put food on the table. but sometimes…sometimes…i get these little moments that take my breath away.

today is the 10th day of the 10th month of october, 2010. a special number, yes – 10.10.10! and you took my breath away with this dedication!

‘Just The Way You Are’ by Bruno Mars

Oh her eyes, her eyes
Make the stars look like they're not shining
Her hair, her hair
Falls perfectly without her trying

She's so beautiful, And I tell her every day
Yeah I know, I know
When I compliment her, She wont believe me
And its so, its so
Sad to think she don't see what I see
But every time she asks me do I look okay
I say

When I see your face
There's not a thing that I would change
Cause you're amazing
Just the way you are
And when you smile,
The whole world stops and stares for awhile
Cause girl you're amazing
Just the way you are

Her lips, her lips
I could kiss them all day if she'd let me
Her laugh, her laugh
She hates but I think its so sexy
She's so beautiful, And I tell her every day
Oh you know, you know, you know
Id never ask you to change
If perfect is what you're searching for

Then just stay the same
So don't even bother asking
If you look okay
You know I say

When I see your face
There's not a thing that I would change
Cause you're amazing
Just the way you are
And when you smile,
The whole world stops and stares for awhile
Cause girl you're amazing
Just the way you are

thank you, honey. love you sampai kerepot!

Kazim Crawling?

at 6 months plus, kazim pushed himself up in a crawling position for the first time few days ago! yay, kazim! (well, ‘yay’ now but ‘adoi’ later when he started crawling all over the place in cockroach speed!)

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

kazim & big bro

enjoy the video. i hope 20 years from now kazim can appreciate his mak’s effort to record his milestones!

Record Breakers in Dubai & UAE

as most of you might already know, united arab emirates is where you can see the tallest building in the world – the ‘burj khalifa’, (formerly known as ‘burj dubai’). apart from that, dubai also has the most expensive hotel in the world, the biggest man-made island in the world, the tallest hotel in the world, the biggest mall in the world, the tallest flag pole in the world – and macam-macam ‘-est’ lagi!

what else do they have, what else did they do, and what else did they build – to break world records?

* * *

most expensive license plate

in february 2008, the most expensive car plate number is sold at 52.2 million dirham! it made what siti nurhaliza paid looked like nasi lemak money! it was bought by an abu dhabi businessman saeed al-khouri. also, you wanna know how incredibly rich his family is? well, the previous record was held by none other than his own cousin, who bought a license plate number 5 for 25.2 million dirham!

the biggest aquarium in the world

apart from being the biggest mall in the world, the dubai mall also houses the biggest aquarium in the world! it’s awarded ‘world’s largest acrylic panel’ measuring 32.88 metres wide by 8.3 metres high by 750 mm thick and weighing 245,614 kg!

once, it actually cracked a little bit and flooded some parts of the mall! ngeri jugak kan. dah la aquarium tu ada shark skali…

the tallest guitar in the world

Music to fans' ears

the old hard rock cafe, dubai along sheikh zayed road, and the new one building at the dubai festival city

have you been to the hard rock hotel, penang? great experience wasn’t it, to see all the beatles exhibition and other music memorabillia. well, how about visiting the largest hard rock cafe in the world?

for eleven years, dubai already has a hard rock cafe along the sheikh zayed road (like our federal highway). it’s closed for a few years now, and will open a spanking new one in dubai festival city. it will be the largest hard rock cafe outside of north america.

not only that, it will feature the largest hard rock shop in the world, as well as the tallest ornamental guitar in the world! its height will be 118 feet (36 meters!),

* * *

tallest flag pole in the world

like our tall 100 meter flag pole featuring the malaysia flag jalur gemilang at dataran merdeka, this one aims to be the tallest in the world! it probably is, at 123 meter tall!

longest line of sandwiches

150 volunteers from kraft foods made 10,000 sandwiches to break the world record for the longest line of sandwiches, yesterday at dubai outlet mall. the sandwiches were arranged in a long line, and must touch each other, for a span of 2.6 kilometers!

“it took half a tonne of cream cheese spread, 10,000 baguettes and nearly 900 kilograms of tomatoes, cucumbers and olives to create the sandwich chain.” gile banyak!

my problem with record breaking that involves food is – what do they do with that much amount of food afterwards? i mean, remember the controversial record-breaking attempt to make a malaysia flag using beras by a group of school children (if i’m not mistaken)?

however, worry not – these sandwiches were packed and distributed to 5,000 workers in the sonapur, al quoz and jebel ali labour accommodations. so it’s all for a good cause, and even greater fun!

world’s biggest shopping trolley

we may have the biggest chair in malaysia (though sadly, the furniture mall was burnt to the ground around june, i think), but dubai has the world’s largest shopping trolley!

being one of the biggest shopping destinations in the world, it’s only apt to have that!

it’s 639cm in length, 250cm in breadth and 900cms high. 15 people too five days to build it, and was constructed by century mall. seriously tak pernah pegi pun mall ni. can check it out soon!

largest plates of dates

dubai also ‘served’ the largest plate of dates in the world! it was awarded to rakan maktoum al qubaisi, chairman of the organising committee of the fourth liwa festival. the liwa festival is where uae showcases its rich cultural heritage. the highlight of the festival is – the dates!

also, the UAE has been officially recognised as the leading cultivator of date palms in the world with 42 million trees!

My Junior Footballers

khaleef loves football. and from the looks of it, his younger brother kahfi shares the passion.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

summer in dubai is subsiding. it’s not as hot as when we left for malaysia two months ago, and it’s not as hazy as few days back. so one fine afternoon i took the boys out and play ball at a clearing in the vicinity of our building, overlooking the man-made marina.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

it’s been SO long since the boys were out JUST to have silly, comot fun, ever since coming back from malaysia. kahfi ran non-stop, cheeks red, and shorts smeared with dirt. nice.

kazim – i’m sure kazim was just happy to be out, soaking in the mellowing summer sun, a hint of sea-breeze blowing from a distant…

he was so quiet and well-behaved! usually he hated to be in the bassinet for more than 5 minutes! he’d be trashing and turning to go out!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

i love taking the boys here because :

  1. it’s just downstairs away from our condo
  2. it’s in the vicinity of our condo, so i don’t have to worry about strange people hanging around the place
  3. it’s very spacious, but gated, so i don’t have to worry about kahfi wandering away
  4. this clearing overlooks the marina, and the boys enjoy spotting yatch and boats slowly docking from the sea
  5. the mini-mart is just down the stairs, so i can easily go down to treat the boys some ice-cream or choc milk after a tiring hot day

the boys’ ‘coach’ is in cairo, egypt now. flying back tonight. perhaps tomorrow coach khairul can bring his protege players to the park to have a real ball time! sorry boys, mak kaki bangku!

No Secret Recipe in Dubai

it’s no secret that ‘secret recipe’ is one of the best cake stores in town. i started munching cakes there even before they introduce asian food in their menu. most delicious mushroom chicken ever, and tasty cakes!

i thought about the pictures i took here when i went with my youngest sister after reading this entry by one of my favorite bloggers, hidayah. click here to read her bit on secret recipe.

my favorite secret recipe cake is, without a doubt, the award winning marble cheese cake. simple, basic cheese cake without the mess of blueberry on top, or nuts or even chocolate. it’s plain cheese. it’s a cheese cake through and through!

soft texture, rich cheese taste. never disappoints. and there’s just enough layer of crumbs at the base to give the slice a crunchy-chewy bit.

i usually eat it slow, soaking up all the cheese and moist, and let it just melt in my mouth. heavenly!

marble cheese cake

my next favorite secret recipe cake would be the banana chocolate cake. i LOVE anything with banana, so this is a double winner because it also has chocolate!

it has this lovely creamy chocolate icing in between the banana slices that’s not too sweet and buttery like what you usually get with sponge cakes. i will ALWAYS, always scrape the icing away on sponge cake.

but on this banana choc slice, i even scrape the leftover icing, and at times, even spread it on a cream cracker! yummy.

banana chocolate cake

there’s no ‘secret recipe’ in dubai, so i went there for my final dinner in malaysia before flying back to dubai. it was just me, my youngest sis azi and kazim – because my other sis syida was still at work, while khaleef and kahfi were out with their bapak and my in-laws.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

azi ordered her favorite tom yam kung, one of the few asian delights offered in the secret recipe menu. it comes steaming hot in a big white bowl. can azi really finish this?

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

it’s a soupy dish with thin strips of kuey teow. there’s also big-big prawns, mushroom and mix vege. it’s very spicy too! so, be prepared to cry your eyes out as you enjoy this fiery dish!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

mushroom chicken

my favorite savory dish at secret recipe has always been the mushroom chicken. i NEVER order anything else. seriously.

well, i’ve tried their cordon bleu chicken, spaghetti, lasagna and even fish n chips – but they’re always from other people’s plates! no matter what, no matter when, no matter whom i go with – it’s always mushroom chicken for me!

it’s essentially grilled boneless chicken with a generous pour of mushroom gravy. huge chunks of mushroom, not just tiny bits. it’s served with buttered rice, but you can choose to change it to french fries.

on the side – crunchy fresh green salad, slices of tomato and white onion, with a string of thousand island dressing. yummy.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

i paired up my dish with a tall glass of iced chocolate with whip cream. nice! by the way, i really don’t care much about whip cream actually. i think they serve no purpose! hihi. menyibuk aje!

* * *

some cafes similar to secret recipe have overpriced food in their menu, with no quality to match. it’s all becoming more about fancy setting and being a cool hangout, than the food itself. but not secret recipe.

the food is affordable, tak mahal tak tentu pasal, and it’s delicious. the cakes are superb, and i don’t think about any other cakes when it comes to buying for birthdays or wedding hantaran. the place is cozy, both a comfy family place and a cool hangout with pals or that special someone.

secret recipe? guess this is one secret that i’m NOT keeping! err, is anyone thinking of bringing the brand to dubai? or shall i? haha.

Congrats, Hazrin!

Want to Act in Mission Impossible 4?

if you’re in dubai, you can act, aged between 25 to 50, and has a fancy national dress fit for the silver screen, then you’re eligible to audition for the latest movie franchise of mission impossible, the fourth instalment. it’s set to be filmed in dubai starting next month, and the production team is looking for extras – 1000 of them!

if it gets me closer to tom cruise – why not! hihi.

somehow this reminds me of the time the production team from ‘anna and the king’ came to malaysia looking for kiddos to act as the king’s children. i remember my cousin wanted to try out, but backed down when the kids were required to shave their head to get the look of the thai princes and princesses.

anyway, shooting has already begin in prague as of now, and will continue next month in dubai, and end in vancouver.

they’re looking for people to fit these roles :

  1. 3 speaking roles are up for grabs – applicants must have acting experience
  2. arabic and european men aged 25-35 years and european women aged 40-50
  3. glamorous indian men and women between 25 and 50 years old, dressed in traditional kurta pyjamas or saris
  4. men and women of all nationalities aged 25-50 dolled up in evening dress, tuxedos or formal national dress
  5. businessmen and women from all nationalities aged 30-40

tom cruise as ethan hunt, an IMF (impossible mission force) agent, has always been, comparatively, my favorite – more than the overrated james bond, and even jason bourne. i mean, the theme song along could give me goosebumps!

he’s so cute, he’s hunky, and oh that smile!

tom cruise in MI:1, and MI:2

i like him better in the first mission impossible, though. his character was young and slightly careless and vulnerable at the beginning, which makes him human. the scene where he dropped into the temperature-sensitive, sound-sensitive, high-tech vault – dropped like someone parachuting. that scene is classic, man.

in the 2nd instalment of MI, his character was over-dramatized to the point that it became too corny – the insane car and bike scenes, the supposed-to-be-rugged floppy hairdo, and the chick’s droopy eyes – too soap-opera-ish to me! even the theme score was brought up a notch, doncha think? jadi macam rock sket!

and i didn’t see MI:3. was it any better?

oh well, now MI:IV is filming, and i hope tom cruise’s hair looks as good as it did in MI:1! so, any takers for the roles of extras in dubai?

check out these postings too!
