Bday Wishes From My Sisters

of course, my birthday would not be complete without the well-wishes from my sisters!

my eldest sis yong posted a video of her ADORABLE kiddos singing me a happy birthday song. aunty gim LOVES it very much! i haven't seen husna for so long, i can't believe how 'grown up' she looks now!

and her big brothers haiqal, haqeem - with their usual crazy antics!

okeh, got the embed code from yong already, now i can annoy you people with their singing too! hihi.

* * *

my younger sis syima uploaded a picture of us together as kiddos! oh wow! where did you dig this up! it's one of the coolest birthday surprises today!

this is probably taken at our old house in taman tun, which makes me around 5-6 years old? yeap. that's me in the ayu baju kurung tapi bertepek bedak! hihi.

sigh. i'm so cute. i'm cute then, and still cute now. (it's my birthday, i can say whatever i want! gimme a break lah! hihi)

* * *

syida gave me a cute animated 'card' last year, and i knew i'm gonna get another gorgeous-ly edited picture from her. thanks syidot! (although i think you chose that picture because YOU look particularly cute in it, and Yang macam ter-enter frame je!)

* * *

...and this one from my youngest sister azot. thaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaank you!

* * *

now where's my cake?

Mr. Khairul's Birthday Dedication

bapak khaleef, kahfi and kazim with his dedication. thanks honey, for this - it's super sweet! (walaupun you said i macam vuvuzela potpetpotpet! hmmph!)

here's the clip. awesome song. incredibly toucing lyrics. enjoy.

Bday Song From Khaleef, Kahfi & Kazim

i'm NOT 31 yet, okay.

however, my 3 boys - khaleef, kahfi & kazim want to be the first ones to wish their mak a happy 31st birthday.

take it away, boys!

ok fine.

so it was actually ONLY khaleef. and even he was forced to mute ben10 and sing, "or else!" hihi. and kahfi was 'bribed' with honey waffles cereal just to get him to sit down and stay put. and kazim - well, he can't run away even if he wanted to. yes, i'm mean.

anyway, 'thank you', boys. for just sitting there and looking so cute. tomorrow, your mak is a year older!

Airport Baru Dubai : Terbesar di Dunia

dubai ade bangunan tertinggi di dunia. hotel tertinggi di dunia. hotel termahal di dunia. pulau buatan manusia terbesar di dunia. pusat membeli-belah terbesar di dunia. fountain muzik tertinggi di dunia. aquarium terbesar di dunia.

sekarang, dah buat lapangan terbang terbesar di dunia pulak!

dubai world central - al-maktoum international airport menerima penerbangan pertama dua hari lepas, dari hong kong. tapi belum betul-betul beroperasi lagi. soon.

kononnya bakal menampung 160 juta penumpang (klia 35 juta sahaja - menurut wikipedia)!

yang tengah-tengah berdiri sebelah awek tu rashid al-maktoum, ruler of dubai

tapi, korang tau tak dubai memang dah ade lapangan terbang antarabangsa. selama ni kitorang landing kat situ je dari malaysia naik emirates airline.

wah. banyak duit ye, dubai.

ini sekadar ilustrasi. tapi klia pastinya jauh lebih cantik kan?

hmm, kitorang balik malaysia nanti rase-rasenye naik ikut al-maktoum airport ni tak? hihi. nak baca berita selanjutnya pasal airport baru ni, sila klik sini.

A Newborn, A Wedding & A Short-Neck Giraffe

babies, weddings and stuffed animals. i love 'em all.

babies for its pure newborn smell that is so heavenly. you can't get enough of smudging your nose against a newborn's cheek, kan? and the way their lil fingers ball up into tiny adorable fists. the way their legs move in motions as if they're going cycling of rowing! cute!

weddings for its food, oh glorious food. the delicious oily nasi minyak and the ayam masak merah with acar. the bloody red sirap. and the bunga telur which makes it all complete. and i don't know about you, but i just love sneaking up inside the house to take a look at the pelamin, and the beautiful decor in the pengantin's room!

stuffed animals? well, once, when mr. khairul wanted to get me a bracelet for my birthday, i asked for a huge stuffed frog instead. that's how much i love stuffed animals.

* * *

the newborn belongs to my schoolmate, anneeza. we're also part of just10, a friendship group formed since we're in form 1.

the wedding. that i didn't go to.

she was the president of KDMM (kelab dewan malaysia melbourne) and i was in the media bureau, if i'm not mistaken. i remember her to be cheery and always with a smile. we've had chats in her room - about life, people - i can open up to her and share stories and feelings, like to a big sis.

she was a good president, and even a nicer friend.

me & kak laily @ monash university caufield

i knew her as kak laily when we were both staying at malaysia hall, and now she's dr. laily the phd. ops, sorry - PUAN laily, phd!

i LOVE the theme color of her wedding! (btw, how come i didn't know earlier!)

kak laily on her big day - credit to nurin for the photo

to dr. laily, i wish you all the happiness in the world!

hmm, i never told anyone this, but since you're married lemme just tell you that one of the guys once confided in me about having a major crush on you, kak laily - and begged me not to tell! hihi. who? shhh!

oh, selamat pengantin baru!

* * *

yes, the stuffed animal i was gonna talk about is this short-necked giraffe!

omera bersama giraffe berleher pendek

comel gile tak?

my friend liyana, (who was also one of the penghuni of malaysia hall melbourne - in fact, she was our 'penghulu aras') actually MADE this for her lil baby girl omera. what a fantastic idea!

i was very impressed because it looks so weird and adorable at the same time. is it a horse? did care-bears threw up on a donkey? is it a unicorn gone bad?

rupa-rupanye it's supposed to be a giraffe but the neck ended up short! hihi.

liyana is another talented friend of mine who sews bags and purses - check out her site akareka design, and make your order or simply browse around!

Watch World Cup Match @ The Orchestra

malaysians are a lucky lot. you can go to any 24hour mamak corner to watch your favorite team battle it out for the ball in one of many football world cup matches. for the non-fans, you can still bask in the ambiance of the night with your friends - the shouts and cheers, the bottomless order of teh tarik and roti canai.

you pay less than rm5 and you can watch the match for the entire night.

you don't see this in dubai! instead, we have to go to nice cafes or to the mall to catch some actions with the crowd. the other day we tried looking for a place to watch the match at dubai mall and ended up at 'the orchestra cafe'.

we caught the japan - netherlands game.

the match grew boring sebab takde sape gol. then when netherlands finally dapat gol, pak-pak arab suma cheer, including us (sebab lama sangat tunggu a goal - ANY goal!). then mr khairul was like, hey kita patut sokong jepun la kan. kita je asians kat dalam cafe ni. hihi.

what can i say about 'the orchestra cafe'? i imagine classic. classic music in the air. velvet. musical instrument. old. classic.

however, it's more of classic contemporary - metal table legs, silver chandelier, metal divider with mirrors - it's all dark brown and silver all around. simple, elegant but not too eye-catching.

'the orchestra cafe' aims only to please and provide comfort for its patrons, not to be an eye-candy posh cafe. with its thick leather chairs at a round table, or plush gray couches at square ones - it spells comfort indeed.

even its salt and pepper shaker is of metal, including the napkin holder. again, very simple yet has the elegant touch.

nothing unique in the menu, in my opinion. one glance and you see all the typical lebanese cuisine, italian dish from pizza to pasta, western yummies like burgers, sandwiches and steaks, as well as the fruit juices to quench your thirst.

they should have a house specialty to stand out from the crowd of cafes - especially being in the biggest mall in the world.

the margherita pizza

since we're just hanging out for the match, we ordered the cheapest pizza in the menu! hihi. 'the margherita pizza', a MUST in the menu of ANY pizza parlour - a pizza with just tomatoes, oregano and lots and lots of mozarella cheese.

i LOVE tomatoes, i never make spaghetti without oregano, and i'm as crazy about cheese as the next mouse - so to me, this simple pizza was so heavenly!

hot and fresh from the oven, the melted cheese runny as we pick a slice, and the tomato slices oh, so juicy - are you salivating yet?

khaleef baru bangun tido

so there we were, enjoying our simple snack while watching the netherlands and japanese chased after the world cup ball.

in 'the orchestra cafe', choose the plush gray couches (like the one khaleef sat on in the picture above) or choose to hang back at a round table (macam pak arab kat gamba bawah tu), on leather chairs with comfy, thick back rest. whichever seat you choose, there's three huge tv screens for you to enjoy a world cup match.

* * *

if you happend to be in dubai mall, they're actually showing the world cup matches at a huge high-def LED screen 20 by 10 meters, at the ice-skating rink. however when we went there, there's a big crowd hovering around the area, standing around blocking the views (especially for me yang tak tinggi ni)!

i think, even if we get good seats from any one of the many cafes and restaurants along the way next to the ice-rink, i doubt we get to watch the action satisfactorily with the big crowd blocking our view.

the ice-rink at dubai mall

anyway, from what i read, you can actually 'book' tickets for seats INSIDE the ice-rink to watch any world cup matches for 25aed. i think this is for the side seats, and for the bean bags they will put all over the ice-rink, facing the screen.

also, for the finals, you pay 50aed for the seats. you can get the tickets at the dubai ice-rink counter.

* * *

it's summer in dubai, and the days are getting hotter than an oven turned up high. i say it's a fun idea to spend it indoors, at an ICE-rink, watching your favorite sport, eh?

outside food allowed tak? hihi.

Tag : Ini Kasut Saya

would you believe it if i told you that i only started wearing my first high heels at age 20? also, i wore my adidas sneakers with baju kurung to class while in uni? and i STILL have those sneakers, good as new?

some girls may have an entire emilda marcos-like collection from vinci, carlo rino, nine west to salvatore ferragamo heels, but i think i have more 'memorable' sneakers from adidas, nike, reebok, converse than any other shoes!

story of my life!

anyway, all this shoe-talk is the result of a tag i got from the dubai baker, fida. thanks, fida!

tada ~

this is the tale of my favorite kasut - ye ol faithful - my blue adidas sneakers. super-comfy, sporty and spunky.

brand : adidas

color : blue

price : lupa!

tahun beli : around 2000 kot - dah 10 tahun! seriously!

kenapa beli : i wear sneakers to class. period.

can you see my adidas?

preferably, add a picture of you wearing this favorite shoes of yours. i found this picture among the pile of e-photographs i got in my hard drive. it was taken during our trip to mirdiff park. i think kahfi was just 2 months old.

time to take a good long peek inside your shoe rack, people!
